How in the World?
Sometimes things just happen, sometimes you make things happen, sometimes, it’s a little of both. Helicopter Pilot Network really started from an utter lack of communication within the industry. It’s no secret our realm of the industry is a bit archaic. Insert image of old guy writing up a bill for a flight on a tri-carbon copy paper here. We saw a need for a network of pilots, so we could easily communicate with one another, share ideas, information on companies, job opportunities, and most importantly, make fun of each other every chance we could get.
Truth is, that’s how HPN started. Couple of helicopter pilots, trying to figure out the industry. When we saw an absolute void of information available, well. . . we filled it. The rest is history.
Where do we go from here?
We get asked this all the time. Truthfully we don’t know. We’ve been asked to form a union, but we’re not really about that life. We do enjoy helping others, and if that means swinging our weight around in the industry from time to time to effect change, well. . . I’m you’re huckleberry. We’re constantly evolving, innovating, and pushing for change in the industry. We don’t do it in the typical fashion with fancy words and documents and such. Rather, by addressing the issues at the core. If you do something stupid in the industry, well, you’ll hit our funny pages and everyone will know about it. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve had someone say, well I was gonna do “__________” but didn’t want HPN to blast me all over the internet about being stupid, so I chose not to.
Nonetheless, who knows what the future holds, but rest assured, whatever we do, we’ll have fun doing it.
